Description

Falasarna Wetlands is a small natural coastal freshwater wetland on the western coast of Crete, near the famous beaches of Falasarna. Covering approximately 2.33 hectares, the wetland is seasonal and receives its freshwater mainly from precipitation and surface runoff. Despite its relatively small size, it forms an important natural habitat within the environmentally significant Falasarna landscape. The wetland lies within the wider protected Natura 2000 area of Gramvousa, Tigani and Falasarna and contributes to the ecological diversity of this remarkable coastal region. Visitors should explore the area responsibly and avoid disturbing vegetation and wildlife, particularly within sensitive wetland habitats.
