Souda Bay

Souda Bay is a large natural harbor near Chania that also functions as an important wildlife observation area, especially for marine and bird species. Its calm, sheltered waters provide habitat for fish, dolphins on occasion, and seabirds such as gulls, cormorants, and herons that feed along the shoreline. The surrounding coastal and wetland edges create resting and feeding zones for migratory birds passing through the eastern Mediterranean. While it is also a major naval and commercial port, parts of the bay still support natural ecosystems that make it relevant for wildlife study.
