Description
Almyros wetland (Georgioupolis area) is a coastal wetland system near Georgioupolis where freshwater springs meet the sea, creating a mixed brackish habitat. This environment supports a variety of bird species, especially migratory waterfowl, herons, and small waders that use the reeds and shallow waters for feeding and resting. The wetland is influenced by seasonal changes in water flow, which affects how much wildlife is present at different times of the year. Its combination of freshwater and marine conditions makes it an ecologically valuable stopover site for birds traveling across the Mediterranean.
