Description
Psilafi Plateau is a high-altitude plain located in the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) of western Crete, near Chania. It’s an open, windswept landscape dotted with alpine meadows, rocky outcrops, and seasonal streams, giving it a stark yet stunning beauty. The plateau supports unique flora, including endemic wildflowers and hardy shrubs adapted to the harsh mountain climate. Wildlife is abundant: raptors like falcons and eagles soar above, while mountain goats, hares, and various reptiles can often be spotted among the rocks. Psilafi is also important for hikers and naturalists, offering panoramic views of surrounding peaks and a tranquil environment that feels far removed from Crete’s coastal bustle.
