Description

Kallikratis Gorge is a striking natural canyon located in southwestern Crete, near the village of Kallikratis in the Sfakia region. The gorge is characterized by steep limestone cliffs, narrow passages, and scattered boulders, making it a dramatic landscape for hikers and adventurers. It is rich in wildlife: birds of prey, including griffon vultures and hawks, are commonly seen soaring above, while smaller birds, lizards, and mountain goats inhabit the rocky slopes. The gorge is also dotted with wild herbs, olive trees, and endemic Cretan flora, creating pockets of greenery amid the rugged terrain. Its combination of natural beauty, challenging trails, and abundant wildlife makes Kallikratis Gorge a rewarding destination for nature lovers and hikers seeking both adventure and solitude.
