Agia Sofia Cave

Agia Sofia Cave is an impressive cavern located high on the western wall of Topolia Gorge, beside the main route toward Elafonisi. Its enormous entrance reaches approximately 25 metres in width, while the interior contains imposing stalactites and stalagmites. The cave has considerable archaeological importance, with finds ranging from the Neolithic and Minoan periods through Classical, Hellenistic and Roman times. A small chapel dedicated to Agia Sofia stands inside the entrance, adding a strong religious dimension to the site. Visitors reach the cave by climbing steps from the roadside, with impressive views across Topolia Gorge.
