Ammoudari

Ammoudari is one of the four traditional settlements of the Askifou Plateau, situated approximately 730 metres above sea level in the mountainous interior of Sfakia. Surrounded by the White Mountains, the plateau has a distinctive bowl-like landscape and offers a very different experience from coastal Chania. Local life has traditionally centred on livestock farming and the cultivation of vines, potatoes, walnuts and other crops. The wider Askifou area also contains historic remains from the Ottoman period and provides access to hiking routes and the dramatic mountain scenery of southern Crete.
