Description

Falassarna coastal wetland is a coastal ecosystem on the western side of Crete that combines sandy beaches, dunes, and seasonal wetland areas. These habitats attract a variety of bird species, especially migratory birds that stop to rest and feed during their journeys across the Mediterranean. The shallow waters and nearby marshy zones can support waders, gulls, and occasionally larger seabirds depending on the season. Because parts of the wetland are temporary and influenced by rainfall, wildlife presence can vary significantly throughout the year, making timing important for observation.
