Description
The Meterizia Hillsides are a peaceful, semi-rural area near Chania that offers excellent opportunities for observing local wildlife. The slopes are covered with olive trees, shrubs, and wild herbs, creating habitats for a variety of birds, such as hoopoes, warblers, and sometimes kestrels gliding overhead. Small mammals like hedgehogs, hares, and foxes are occasionally spotted, especially in the quieter parts of the hills. Reptiles and amphibians, including lizards and frogs, thrive in the rocky and moist patches. In spring, the hills burst with wildflowers that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making Meterizia a vibrant spot for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
