Description

Tunnel by the Topolia Gorge (associated with the basin and course of the Tiflos River / Tyflos) is a prominent natural and geographical landmark in the western Chania regional unit. Originating from the mountainous heights near Mount Dikaios, the Tiflos River carves its way northward through the dramatic, steep walls of the Topolia Gorge—steeped in myth as the ancient haunt of Minoan nymphs—before flowing out into the Bay of Kissamos. The river's seasonal waters nourish a lush canyon ecosystem alongside the historic road corridor leading toward western Crete's southern coast.
