Voutas Area (Selino)

Voutas is a small rural settlement in the Selino region of southwestern Chania, surrounded by a peaceful landscape of hills, olive groves, traditional farmland and Mediterranean vegetation. Situated at an elevation of roughly 280 metres, the area forms part of the transition between the mountainous interior of Selino and the warmer coastal landscapes around Paleochora. The mosaic of cultivated fields, rocky slopes, shrubs and scattered woodland provides habitat for typical Cretan birds, reptiles, butterflies and other Mediterranean wildlife. Voutas is not an organised wildlife attraction; its appeal lies instead in its quiet countryside, traditional character and opportunities for slow exploration away from the island's busiest destinations. It is particularly suitable for visitors interested in rural landscapes, nature photography and observing the everyday ecological environment of western Crete.
